Just this morning, I came across an email. There was this guy who was asked by a student: “What leads to success?” The question is so simple but you rarely get the right answers. So why are others so successful while you are not? What are the things you need to do to “create your ladder of success”? Are there really steps one must do in order to succeed? How much effort does one need to even get a glimpse of what’s waiting up there? You’ll find that out here.
Take a look at 8 simple tips that build your ladder of success:
1. Passion – if you do something that you love, you are more likely to succeed. You don’t do things for money. If you love doing what you do, money will come anyway.
2. Hard Work – It all has to do with hard work. But it doesn’t need to end up in all hard work. You mix your hard work with a little smartness… then it becomes “working smart”. If you work hard and become smart at it, you’ll learn how to have fun even in your hard work.
3. Be Your Best – if you are going to do something, you better try to be good at it. Give that something you do your best. It does not matter if you fail a hundred times or more. If you give it your best, you’ll always end up knowing more and knowing better.
4. Practice – by now you have probably realized that there is no magic to success. There is no secret formula. There is no shortcut. So what do you do? You practice… and you practice some more… and you practice really hard… practice, practice, practice!
5. Focus – you are doing your best, you practice every day. But there isn’t enough focus. If you want to be successful, you should learn to focus on only one thing and one thing alone. If you get easily distracted by a lot of things, all the best work and practice will not bear good fruit.
6. Push – push yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and yes even sometimes spiritually. Sometimes all the things you do need prayers along with it. You push away self-doubt and shyness. You push your brains. Instead of thinking you can’t, you start thinking “what do I have to do to make this possible?” If you cannot push yourself, let your friends push you, let your better half push you, let your parents push you.
7. Serve – there is always a purpose for doing the things you do. And that is why you serve people through the skills that you have mastered. It is always a privilege to serve people. And when you serve people right, you are rewarded. That is how most successful people get rich: Serve others something of value.
8. Idea – Bill Gates founded a software company through one idea. It does not take a lot of expertise to be creative in coming up with ideas. You just have to: listen, observe, be curious, ask questions, problem solve, make connections and write down thoughts as they come.
Bonus Tip: Persist! Keep doing what you are doing despite the obstacles. Most people quit not knowing that they are only another try away from seeing success.
